HIGHLIGHTS OF JUNE 2= 006 MEETING

 

 

        &= nbsp;   It was reported the our friend and colleague Marine Fred Scott is still not up= to par.  He has been ill for the = past several weeks.  We miss Fred a= nd wish him a speedy recovery.  H= is address is in the telephone book. &nb= sp; Members are encouraged to send him a card.

 

        &= nbsp;   The detachments involvement in Relay for Life was again a success.  The posting of colors at the openi= ng ceremony was provided by the detachment.&n= bsp; Your fellow Marines did themselves proud.  Over $700 dollars was collected by= the Detachment for the American Cancer Society, and many fellow Marines made the walk around the Kokomo High School<= /st1:PlaceType> track. 

 

        &= nbsp;   Marine Crousore<= /span> informed us that the “First Annual Semper= Fi Bike Run” netted $2,250 profit for the detachment.  It was a tremendo= us success and plans are going forward to repeat the run next year.  Everyone is to be commended for a = job well done.

 

        &= nbsp;   A number of our detachment Marines routinely assist the VFW Milita= ry Rites detail with grave side ceremonies.&n= bsp; It was reported by Marine H= ayes that one hundred and four (104) such ceremonies have taken place this past year.  Four of these have been= for Marines. 

 

        &n= bsp;   The Golf Outing for the Toys for Tots program is moving forward according the SSgt Siebert and Marine Billy Gaunt.  They both encourage members to see= k Hole Sponsors as well as players.   The event will again be held at the Chippendale Golf Course, on Augu= st 12th.

 

        &= nbsp;   Members of the detachment recognized the efforts of Captain Tedd Shimp for all his good work in putting together the Detachment’s Web page. =

 

        &= nbsp;   Finally, Vice Commandant Jeff Handy posed the  question for the need to de= velop certain “Policy” positions on several subjects.  These are items not normally cover= ed by the Detachment’s By-Laws, but surface from time to time.  For example, should the Detachment= provide  a color guard for a partisan political function;&n= bsp; what should the criteria be for determining who can or cannot be an “associate member”;  or  the development of criteria for determining  how our funds are= to be used or not used.

 

        &= nbsp;   Next meeting is July 27th,  same place, same time.=
