I.          OFFICERS PRESENT – Jeff Handy, Commandant; Bill Gaunt, Vice Commandant; Woody Luecke, Adjutant; Ray Thompson, Paymaster; Spencer Hayes, Quartermaster; and Fred Scott, Sgt-at-Arms.

 

II         MEMBERS PRESENT – Nicholas L. Loffredo, Larry Boughton, Bud McMullen, Jack Elkin, Jean Lushin, Tedd Shimp, Lester Creason, Lonie Slisher, Jim Cowan, Hod Peabody, Joe Crousore, John Moor, Lisa Chiavola, and William Maiden.

 

III.       NEW MEMBERS -- On a motion duly made, properly seconded, and unanimously approved; Tony Murray’s application for membership is accepted and approved.

 

IV.       MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING – RESOLVED; that the minutes of the 26 July, 2007 meeting are approved without changes.

 

V.        PAYMASTER’S REPORT

On a motion duly made, properly seconded, and unanimously approved; RESOLVED; that the paymaster’s report be accepted as presented.

 

VI.       COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Sick and Hurt – At this time we are blessed with nothing to report.

 

Veterans Council – Marine Scott reported the family of a deployed Grissom airman is in need of assistance. Members may assist with food and/or funds through the VFW Post 1152.

 

Veterans Appreciation Day will be observed at Golden Corral during November 9th through 12th, 2007.

 

Military Rites – Marine Hayes reports 113 funerals for departed comrades YTD. Nine of these were Marines. May they rest in God’s gentle care.

COMMITTEE REPORTS continued

 

Golf Outing – Great weather and the combined effort of League members, family members and Det. 1, Comm. Co. Marines resulted in happy golfers and $4,407.00 for Toys for Tots. Well done!

 

Marine Capt. Shimp, reported he will act as liaison between the League and the new Toys for Tots representative: SSgt. Petoski. Our thanks to SSgt Siebert.

 

Retiree Affairs Office – Marine Hayes reports a successful family event for retired veterans at Grissom AFRB. The attendance exceeded 400 people.

 

VII      DETACHMENT ACTIVITIES

           

Young Marines – Marine Chiavola reported the committee is in contact with experienced Young Marine leaders who are willing to assist our members with preparation and implementation of a local Young Marine Detachment. Committee members are Lonnie Slisher, Lisa Chiavola, and Logan Sparling.

 

VIII     UNFINISHED OR NEW BUSINESS – Coming events include:

 

            Day of Caring – Color Guard will meet at 7:00 a.m. at the Kokomo High School.

 

Patriots Day Ceremony – Memorial Wreath to be presented at Greentown on September 9th, 2007. Bud McMullen and Bill Gaunt will present.

 

Marine Gaunt familiarized the members with pocket planners and suggested they be purchased for distribution to merchants and business leaders who support our League. On a motion duly made, properly seconded, and unanimously approved; RESOLVED; that the minimum purchase of 50 planners shall be made.

 

 

IX        FOR THE GOOD OF THE LEAGUE – Remember our deployed Marines and their families in your prayers.

 

X         NEXT MEETING – The next meeting of the Albert E. Shockey Detachment will be on Thursday, 27 September, 2007, at 1800 hours, at 213 E. Jefferson St., Kokomo, Indiana.

 

XI        ADJOURNMENT - After retiring The Colors, and prayers offered by
