May 2006 Meeting Highlights

“SEMPER FI= ” BIKE RUN - According the Marine Crousore, everything for the upcoming B= ike Run is falling into place. He= has 25 sponsors at this point and is expecting a great turn-out. Several prizes have been sec= ured, including “Harley” shirts from Las Vegas. Vice Commandant Jeff Handy w= ill be responsible for cooking the meal to be served after the run. The menu includes; hamburgers, hot= dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, and all the trimmings.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> We look forward to seeing all deta= chment members at the event. MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION (May 29, 2006 - Several events will= be taking place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29^th that will include members of the Marine Corps League Detachment. At 1= 100 hrs, members of our detachment will place a wreath, in memory of all Marine= s, at the foot of the Soldiers & Sailors monument in Crown Point Cemeter= y. Later in the day at 1330 hrs, memb= ers or our detachment will&nb= sp; conduct a speci= al “flag folding” ceremony at the Veterans Memorial, in Darrough= Chapel Park. Both events are in cooperation and= in conjunction with several other Howard County Veteran organizations.

HOWARD COUNTY VETERAN’S CORPORATION &= #8211; Vice Commandant Jeff Handy will now represent the “Albert E. Shockey” Detachment of the Marine Corps League = as a new member of the corporation’s board of directors. He was sworn in as a member just a= few short weeks ago. We wou= ld like for all members of the league to give Jeff your support and your ideas.

MONTHLY MINUTES OF THE DETACHM= ENT – We will no longer pro= vide a complete printing of the league’s minutes on our Web Page. Instead, we will give brief highlights of what is considered important aspect of the meeting. In addition, any and all important up-coming events will be posted on our Web calendar.

HAYNES APPERSON = PARADE – Members of the Detach= ment will lead this year’s Haynes Apperson Par= ade, on Saturday, July 1, 2006. Included as part of our ento= urage will be two USMC = HumVees, and a very large USMC 7 ton truck. A color guard of Marines will lead= the parade from Walnut and Main to and in fr= ont of the reviewing stand where the National Anthem will be played. They will then lead the parade to = the coroner of Sycamore and Main where they = will retire. It is indeed an honor= to have been asked by the Parade officials to have our Marines lead this annual event. Thanks!!!

“JOHN W. L= ADD” MEMORIA= L GOLD OUTING &= #8211; Our annual “Toys for Tots” golf outing is progressing well, according to Marine Gaunt. Details of the event can be found on the Web Page www.kokomomarines.com Check it out.

NEXT MEETING – The Detachment’= s next meeting is scheduled for 1800 hrs, on Thursday, June 29^th, at the regular place, 213 East Jefferson. Commandant Jean P. Lushin will be unable to attend. He = and his wife Sandy will be attending the graduation ceremonies for their grands= on 2^nd Lt Elliott Lushin USMC, at Quantico, Virginia. Congratulations to all!!!
