APRIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
MOTHERS OF MARINES
The mothers of two Marines currently in the Marine Corps contacted the commandant with the idea of helping the league and the families of Marines currently serving. The membership welcomed this opportunity and instructed the commandant to proceed with developing a relationship and a policy for their inclusion into the detachment’s activities.
“SEMPER FI” BIKE RUN
The bike run, scheduled for June 3rd , is progressing well. Marine Crousore has twenty-three (23) sponsors and is expecting a few more. The run has been well advertised throughout the state via the internet and other veteran organizations. We should expect to have a well attended event.
VETERANS MEMORIAL CORPORATION
Marine Handy, our Vice Commandant, was recently elected to serve on the Howard County Veteran’s Memorial board of directors. This has been long in coming.
GOLF OUTING
The fourth (4th) annual “John W. Ladds” Memorial Golf Outing is scheduled for August 12th at the Chip-n-Dale Golf Course. Marine Gaunt has agreed to chair the event along with the Toys for Tots representative, SSgt Ryan Siebert. Flyers will soon be available for distribution.
TRANSPLANT GAMES
Marine Hayes, who has had a double lung transplant as well as an assortment of other parts replaced, will be attending the annual “Transplant” games in Louisville, Kentucky in early June. The detachment felt honored to support the games and our own Marine Hayes. They awarded him with $200 to cover his expenses.
RESTORATION OF VETERAN’S MONUMENT IN CROWN POINT CEMETERY
It was reported that the first phase of the work on the restoration project will begin in June with an ending sometime in October. This first phase will cost somewhere between $20,000 and $24,000.
